Curriculum Vitae of Petros A.M. Gelepithis

Designer, grant-holder, and Director of the postgraduate programme in Artificial Intelligence (1987-1991); Director of the Cognitive Science Laboratory (2001-2005); Member of the Research Degrees Committee (1994-2005) of Kingston University London. For the period 1987-91, Dr Gelepithis has had an overall grant income of ~ £.75 million.

In July 2005 he relinguished his tenure and high salary to gain his full independence.

Visiting professor/scientist at: University of Oxford 1990-1991 (Visiting Scientist, Department of Experimental Psychology); Shizuoka University, Japan (May-June 2005); National & Kapodistrian University of Athens 2005-06 (Dept. of Philosophy and History of Science); University of Cyprus 2006 (Dept of Informatics); University of Crete 2007-2008 (School of Medicine); University of Oxford 2008-2009 (Faculty of Philosophy Academic Visitor, and elected SCR member of St. John’s College). Since 2008 he is an adjunct faculty member of the Interdisciplinary Graduated Programme in the Brain & Mind sciences, University of Crete.

Member of the editorial board of scientific journals, and Associate of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. He has been, or is, member of: Cognitive Science Society, British Computer Society, American Association for Artificial Intelligence, Hellenic Society for Artificial Intelligence (founding member), British Society for the Advancement of Society, Hellenic Cognitive Science Society.

Elected: (1992) fellow of The Cybernetics Society (FCybS); BT Research Fellow 2000-2001; Member of the Council of The Cybernetics Society (2002). Member (2011-2015) of the Council of the Hellenic Cognitive Science Society.

Gelepithis’ research programme is on the Nature and Mechanisms of Mind, Noémona Systems, and Modern Human Society. His work has appeared in books, encyclopedias, and journals including: Cybernetica, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Kybernetes, World Futures, International Journal of Machine Consciousness, Oxford University Research Archive. Currently, he writes up: Aspects of the Science of Noémona Systems: A Novel Theory of Mind and is involved with related activities including invited talks, articles and interviews.

Invited lectures in England, Greece, USA, Cyprus, and Japan.

Independent expert for the European Commission since 2003.
